Biography of Greta Arn

Greta Arn is a professional Hungarian tennis player, currently considered the country's top player. She was born in Budapest, Hungary. For 9 years, she played for Germany, holding dual German-Hungarian citizenship. However, in 2008, Greta chose to represent Hungary in the Fed Cup instead of Germany. After the Cup, she continued to compete for Hungary.

Early Career

Greta earned her first Women's Tennis Association (WTA) title in 2007 when she was ranked 176th in the world. This victory was remarkable as she was relatively unknown at that time and had never won a tournament of such level before.

Success at Wimbledon

In 2010, Greta successfully qualified for Wimbledon and reached the third round. She defeated Kateryna Bondarenko in the first round and Alicia Molik, a former top-ten player, in the second round. However, her winning streak was ended by Marion Bartoli, the eventual tournament champion.

Challenges at the US Open

At the US Open, Greta faced the third-ranked player in the world, Kim Clijsters, and unfortunately lost in two rounds.

Continued Success and Rankings

Greta went on to compete in the Toray Pan Pacific Open, where she defeated Laura Robson but lost to Caroline Wozniacki. In 2011, she had a brilliant performance at the ASB Classic, defeating Zuzana Ondraskova, Sofia Arvidsson, and Maria Sharapova in two sets. In the final, she defeated last year's champion, Yanina Wickmayer, also in two sets.

At her peak, Greta held the 40th position in the world's best tennis players ranking. Currently, she has dropped to 61st place.
