Childhood and Early Life

Grigory Sevastyanovich Ageshin was born on February 15, 1915, in the village of Bolshaya Zhuravka, Saratov Oblast. His parents were peasants, and he received a primary education. Before the war, Ageshin worked as a dining hall manager at the "Vydvizhenets" state farm.

Military Service

In 1941, Ageshin joined the Soviet Army and served until 1945. He fought on the Western and 1st Belorussian Fronts throughout the Great Patriotic War. From July 1941 to July 1944, he was a partisan with the "For Soviet Belarus" brigade, serving as a private and a saboteur squad commander.

Heroism During the Vistula Crossing

On January 15, 1945, Ageshin's reconnaissance skills were put to the test. As a former partisan, he was tasked with finding potential crossing points over the Vistula River. Despite enemy resistance, Ageshin crossed the river and discovered two machine guns and a bunker from which explosives were wired to the bridge. With stealth and determination, he neutralized the guards, cut the detonators, and destroyed the bunker, saving the bridge.

Liberation of Warsaw

After successfully crossing the Vistula River, Ageshin was tasked with scouting enemy forces in the village of Polskie. He and two other scouts infiltrated the village and observed enemy positions. While returning, they spotted three German soldiers and captured them, providing valuable intelligence to the regiment.

Post-War Life

After the war, Ageshin served as the chairman of the V.I. Chapaev collective farm and as a manager at the "Glavvtorsyre" interregional office. He retired and lived in Arkadak until his death on February 8, 1982.

Legacy

For his bravery and courage, Ageshin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on February 27, 1945. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and other medals. His heroic actions during the Vistula crossing and the liberation of Warsaw are remembered as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of the Soviet people during World War II.
