Gulbakhor Mirzaeva: A Multifaceted Artist
Early Life and FamilyGulbakhor Mirzaeva was born on March 12, 1959, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Her father, Gaffar Mirzo, was a renowned poet and translator, while her mother, Mukhiba Yakubova, was a distinguished scientist and academic.
Literary Beginnings
Mirzaeva graduated from Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow in 1981. She worked as the Head of Poetry for the literary magazine "Pamir" in Dushanbe, translating literary works and writing film and theater criticism. She published her poetry collections "Healing" (1983) and "Field of Blooming Clover" (1989).
Filmmaking Career
Tajikfilm and ATVIn 1987, Mirzaeva became a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR. She worked at the Tajikfilm studio, directing her first documentary films. In 1990, she moved to Moscow and became a director for ATV (Author's Television).
Move to France
Mirzaeva relocated to France in 1992 and became a French citizen. She studied French at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris and taught Russian in Strasbourg from 1996 to 2000.
Independent Filmmaking
After a seven-year hiatus, Mirzaeva resumed making films in 1998 as an independent filmmaker. She became a member of the French Guild of Directors and Authors of Non-Fiction Film (SCAM).
Personal Life
Mirzaeva has two children, Saida and Samuel. Saida is a video game designer, while Samuel is currently in high school.
