Biography of Guzh Manukyan
Guzh Manukyan was born on May 6, 1937, in Leninakan (now Gyumri), into the family of Soviet playwright Alexander Armenovich Arakmanyan and actress Valentina Melkonovna Arakmanyan. He completed the acting department of the Yerevan Art and Theater Institute in 1958. From 1958 to 1960, he worked at the Feodosiya Drama Theater, and from 1960 to 1967, he served at the Yerevan Theater for Young Spectators. Since 1967, he has been serving at the Yerevan Drama Theater and is one of the founders of this theater.
Recognition and Awards
Guzh Manukyan was honored with the title of People's Artist of the Armenian SSR. He was also awarded the State Prize of the Armenian SSR in 1981 for his theatrical work and received the Movses Khorenatsi Medal. In 2012, he was honored with the "For Honor and Dignity" award at the "Artavazd-2012" theater prize.
Family
Guzh Manukyan's father, Alexander Armenovich Arakmanyan (1911-1982), was a playwright, and his mother, Valentina Melkonovna Arakmanyan, was an actress at the Yerevan Theater for Young Spectators. His brother, Emanvel (Emmanuil) Alexandrovich Araksmanyan, is also a playwright.
