Birth and Early Life
Khazi Salikhovich Bogdanov was born into a Tatar family in the Ulyanovsk region.
Military Career
Pre-World War IIIn 1922, Bogdanov enlisted in the Red Army. He attended the Ulyanovsk Infantry School (1926) and armored warfare courses in Leningrad (1929). From 1932 to 1940, he served as communications chief at the Leningrad School of Tank Technicians. In 1939, he graduated from the Frunze Military Academy of the Red Army.
World War II
During the Great Patriotic War, Bogdanov commanded various units and formations on the Kalinin, Moscow, and Steppe fronts. He participated in the battles of the Kursk Bulge, the Sandomierz bridgehead, and the liberation of Prague, Vienna, and Jutborg.
Bogdanov distinguished himself in the Berlin operation. On April 22, 1945, his 22nd Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade captured a bridgehead on the northern bank of the Teltow Canal despite fierce enemy resistance. On April 25, 1945, Bogdanov's brigade was one of the first to enter Berlin from the south, facilitating the advance of other units into the city center.
Post-War Service and Legacy
After the war, Bogdanov served with the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany until 1950 and retired from active duty in 1953. He died in 1983. On November 15, 2019, a secondary school in the town of Starotimoshkino was named in honor of Khazi Bogdanov.
