Early Life and Education
Harrison Jacob Neffwas born on October 21, 1992, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a Jewish family. After his parents' divorce when he was two years old, he moved to Newton, Massachusetts, with his mother. Despite his artistic ambitions, Neff struggled with substance abuse, self-harm, and delinquency in his youth.
He attended Columbia University, where he pursued a degree in drama. During his freshman year, he began identifying as a female and requested to be addressed with she/her pronouns.
Modeling and Blogging
In 2014, while attending Columbia, Neff was approached by a photographer from the IMG Models agency, impressed by her unconventional appearance. Simultaneously, she maintained a popular blog on Tumblr, where she gained a loyal following with her witty and provocative commentary on sexuality and fashion.
Acting Career
Neff's acting debut came in 2015 with a five-episode appearance in Joey Soloway's comedy-drama series "Transparent," where she played Tante Gittel, a transvestite in Weimar-era Germany. Her performance earned critical acclaim and a SAG Award nomination.
Advocacy and Personal Life
Known for her outspokenness, Neff advocates for greater transgender visibility and representation. She has been open about her personal life, including her experiences with numerous partners. In 2017, she dated actor Tommy Dorfman; they later lived together in Los Angeles.
Neff currently resides in New York City with her partner, photographer and model Jacob Bixenman. She is vocal about maintaining personal freedom and not rushing into marriage.
Recent Projects
Neff's recent acting roles include the sequel to "Sex and the City," "And Just Like That...," where she played a transgender rabbi named Jane. She also appeared in the HBO series "The Idol" and Greta Gerwig's film "Barbie."
Neff's writing has continued to be a significant part of her career, with essays published in Dazed and GQ. She uses her platform to challenge societal norms and empower marginalized communities.
