Kim Hee-sun: An Illustrious Career in South Korean Entertainment

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Kim Hee-sun was born in Seoul, South Korea, on February 25, 1977. She first graced television screens at the tender age of 11 but her significant career took off later. Kim graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in Drama. From there, she secured roles in numerous television dramas and gained recognition as a notable actress in South Korea.

Transition to Film

Kim's career extended beyond television as she ventured into feature films. Her first significant cinematic appearance was in the 1997 film "Repechage" alongside Jang Dong-gun. Shortly after, director Lee Gwon-hun cast her in "Ghost in Love," released in 1999.

Breakthrough Role in "Bichunmoo"

Kim's most notable role to date is in the big-budget fantasy martial arts film "Bichunmoo." Filmed in China and released in 2000, she played the daughter of a Mongolian warlord who falls in love with her childhood friend. While criticized for her portrayal, this role garnered significant attention and solidified her status as a leading Korean actress, not only domestically but also in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.

Experimentation and Critical Acclaim

In late 2001, Kim took on a markedly different role in "Wanee and Junah," where she sported a short haircut as an animator. This time, her acting garnered critical acclaim, but the film underperformed at the box office. She later starred in "Man from Mars" (2003) and appeared alongside Jackie Chan as a Korean princess in "The Myth" (2005).

Recent Roles and Personal Life

Kim Hee-sun's most recent acting job was in the Korean drama series "Smile Again" (2006). She currently resides in Seoul and is also known as a model and presenter. Her seasoned acting career has allowed her to seamlessly transition into the fashion and media industry.

Kim once dated Eric Mun, but their wedding was canceled due to her parents' disapproval as she was too young at the time. She is now married to Park Yu-chun, and in January 2009, they welcomed a daughter named Yeon A.
