Biography of Helen Johnson-Leipold
Education and Family BackgroundHelen Johnson-Leipold, the Chair and President of Johnson Outdoors, received an excellent education at Cornell University. After successfully completing her studies, she was awarded an honorary bachelor's degree in science and arts. She is considered one of the most affluent and influential individuals of global importance, with her personal wealth estimated to be around $1.5 billion according to Forbes magazine, which placed Helen on its list of the brightest billionaires on the planet. Helen Johnson-Leipold is the daughter of Samuel Curtis Johnson, who passed away in 2004. Samuel was the great-grandson of the founder of the large family corporation, which includes numerous subsidiaries.
Early Career and Joining the Family Business
In the late 1970s, after graduating from Cornell University, Helen worked at Foote, Cone & Belding in Chicago. It was only in September 1985 that she joined the family business, just like her siblings, initially taking on the role of a regular employee. Over time, Helen began to rapidly climb the corporate ladder.
Leadership Roles
In the spring of 1999, Johnson-Leipold was elected Chair and President of Johnson Outdoors, one of the many divisions of the family's global enterprise. In 2004, she was appointed Chair of the Johnson Financial Group. Currently, the Johnson Outdoors, Inc division produces water sports equipment, various snorkeling gear, navigational devices, and other related products. Johnson Outdoors, Inc operates in more than 24 countries and employs around 1,500 people who manufacture goods worth $315 million annually.
