Early Life and Education

As a child of 12, Helena Jaczek immigrated with her family from England to Canada, where she eventually pursued higher education. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Health Science degrees from the University of Toronto, as well as a Master of Business Administration from York University's Schulich School of Business.

Medical and Healthcare Career

Jaczek's career in healthcare began at Women's College Hospital in Toronto. She also served as a medical officer of health and commissioner of health services for York Region, overseeing public health, emergency services, and long-term care for 18 years. Her passion for supporting vulnerable populations extended to her involvement on the boards of Reena, a non-profit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities, and Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care.

Political Journey in Ontario

From 2007 to 2018, Helena Jaczek served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, representing the riding of Oak Ridges—Markham. During her tenure in the Ontario Executive Council under Premier Kathleen Wynne, she held the positions of Minister of Citizenship and Social Services (2014-2018) and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care (2018).

Federal Member of Parliament

In the 2019 federal election, Jaczek was elected as a Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of Markham—Stouffville in Ontario. She has consistently championed healthcare, equity, and economic development within her community.

Minister of Economic Development

On October 26, 2021, Helena Jaczek was appointed as the Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. In this role, she leads efforts to foster economic growth, innovation, and job creation in the region.
