Herbert Rosendorfer - German Writer and Lawyer

Herbert Rosendorfer was born on February 19, 1934, in the village of Gris (now part of Bolzano), in South Tyrol. He was a German writer and lawyer, as well as a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. Rosendorfer was the recipient of numerous German literary awards throughout his career.

Early Life and Education

From 1939 to 1943, Rosendorfer lived in Munich before being evacuated to Kitzbühel in 1943. He returned to Munich in 1948. After completing school, Rosendorfer studied painting for a year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. However, he later enrolled in the law faculty at the University of Munich.

Career as a Judge and Professor

From 1967 to 1993, Rosendorfer served as a judge in Munich. He then became a judge at the Higher Regional Court in Naumburg from 1993 to 1997. In parallel with his judicial career, Rosendorfer was an adjunct professor of contemporary literature at the University of Munich starting from 1990.

Later Years and Legacy

After retiring in 1997, Rosendorfer moved to South Tyrol, residing in the city of Eppan until his death on September 20, 2012. He was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. In addition to his numerous novels and short stories, Rosendorfer also wrote plays, screenplays, historical research, travel guides, and treatises on music. Some of his works belong to the genre of science fiction, while others, including his realistic and historical works, often incorporate elements of satire and grotesque.
