Hidetoshi Nishijima was born on March 29, 1971, in Hachioji, Japan. Influenced by his father's love for films, Nishijima developed a passion for cinematography at a young age. Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's "Torn Curtain," he initially aspired to become a scientist but later decided to pursue acting. After a successful audition, he left his engineering studies and enrolled in the Yokohama National University's theater program.

Nishijima made his television debut in "Detective Hagure Junjo" in 1992.
