Biography of Hilo Chen

Hilo Chen, also known as Хи Ло Чен, is a contemporary American artist who specializes in hyperrealism. Chen, born as Yui Lum, was born in 1942 in Taiwan and obtained American citizenship in the 1970s. He received his bachelor's degree in architecture from Chang Yang College in Taiwan. In 1968, he took a trip to Paris, which greatly influenced his artistic style.

Hyperrealistic Paintings

Hilo Chen is known for his paintings in the genre of nude and floristry. His professional mastery as a hyperrealist artist is highly praised by critics. The skin tones of the nude models in his paintings appear more realistic than in real life. When looking at his artwork, one can almost feel the presence of these women who, for the most part, pay no attention to the viewer.

Chen's paintings can be found in various collections, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the San Jose Museum of Art in California, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan, the Vero Beach Museum of Art in Florida, the Taiwanese Museum of Art in Taichung, and the Newport Art Museum in Rhode Island. Since 1974, Chen has held numerous solo exhibitions in art centers and galleries such as the Louis K. Meisel Gallery in New York, Galerie Esperanza in Montreal, Galerie Thomas Salo in Cranford, New Jersey, Galerie Delaive in Amsterdam, Apollo Galleries in Nan, Modern Art in Taipei, and Bernarducci Gallery in New York, among others.
