Howard Thorston, a renowned magician and wizard, is known for his unique and mesmerizing performances. Born on July 20, 1869, in Columbus, Ohio, United States, Thorston had a natural inclination towards creativity from a young age.

Master of Card Manipulation

Thorston began his career with playing cards and quickly gained success and popularity. He proclaimed himself as the King of Cards, and rightfully so. At that time, Thorston was indeed the best card manipulator and was the first to use the famous technique known as Back Palm. This trick was only known and used by top-level magicians and card sharps. According to legend, Thorston learned this trick from Otto Maurer, the owner of a magical shop in New York, who learned it from a mysterious Mexican magician. Thorston also honed his skills through books, with Professor Hoffman's "Modern Magic" being his main textbook. He gained a wealth of knowledge from this collection.

Acclaimed Magician

Thorston was highly respected not only by the general public but also by professional magicians. In 1908, he was honored with the prestigious Magical Mantle, bestowed upon him by the great magician of that time, Harry Kellar. Kellar declared that he knew no one more deserving or capable of carrying on his legacy. Following Kellar's retirement, Thorston took over the Thurston-Kellar Show and mesmerized audiences for a long time, leaving them unable to fathom his extraordinary magic tricks.

The Traveling Magician

Thorston traveled extensively throughout the country, carrying eight carriages filled with props and equipment for his magical shows. This is not surprising considering the elaborate elements that his performances incorporated, turning them into spectacular spectacles.

Legacy and Continuing Interest

On March 30, 1936, Thorston suffered a stroke. Despite his deteriorating health, he managed to survive for another two weeks before passing away on April 13, 1936. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Columbus.
