Biography of H.P. Baxxter

Early Life and Musical Interests

Hans-Peter Geerdes, known as H.P. Baxxter, was born and raised in the small town of Lere in northern Germany. From a young age, he had a passion for music, but his tastes were quite different from what he would become known for. Rather than dance music, he was inspired by artists such as Ritchie Blackmore and Billy Idol, even imitating Idol's appearance by dyeing his hair in the 1980s. Despite his love for music, Baxxter briefly studied law and trading operations before deciding to pursue a career in the music industry.

Celebrate The Nun and The Loop!

In 1986, Baxxter met musician Rick Jordan in Hannover, and together they formed the synth-pop group Celebrate The Nun. Baxxter's sister, Britt Maximé, was also part of the group, contributing as a songwriter, backing vocalist, and even performing two solo songs. Celebrate The Nun achieved success with two songs on the American dance charts, Billboard. However, the group disbanded in 1991.

In Hamburg, Baxxter crossed paths with Jens Thele, who would later become one of the biggest owners of dance labels in Europe, including Kontor and Sheffield Tunes. During this time, Baxxter's music preferences shifted towards rock, influenced by the British techno group The KLF and their similarities to Depeche Mode.

In 1993, Baxxter and Rick Jordan reunited with Jens Thele and Baxxter's cousin, Ferris Büller, forming the remix team The Loop!. Their live performance, which included both remixes and original instrumental tracks, led to the birth of the famous debut single, "Hyper Hyper," and the formation of the new group Scooter.

Success with Scooter

Baxxter's future as a musician became closely tied to Scooter, where he serves as the vocalist and frontman. The group achieved significant success with numerous hit songs and albums, becoming one of the most successful German bands in the electronic and dance music genre.

Personal Life

Baxxter married his first wife, Katie, in 1998, but they divorced after five years. In 2006, he married Simona Mostert, a well-known German model, but they also divorced in June 2011. Baxxter has been involved in various side projects, including the release of an audiobook in 2004 where he shared personal stories. He has also collaborated on other music projects, such as the 2005 project "80's Flashback" and the song "Eisbär" in 2007.

Near-Death Experience

In 2009, during the filming of the music video for "J'adore Hardcore" in Majorca, Baxxter narrowly escaped death. After a robbery in his hotel room, he went to the police station for help, but there were no officers who spoke English or German. While searching for a translator, Baxxter entered a bar. Shortly after he left, a terrorist attack by the ETA Basque group occurred at the police station, resulting in the death of two officers.
