In 1929, while working as an editor for trade journals, he sold his first story, "Island Ordeal," to the sensation-fiction magazine "Brief Stories." His prolific imagination and knack for storytelling soon gained him a loyal following among readers of such pulp magazines as "Strange Tales," "Weird Tales," and "Black Book Detective."
Tropical Explorations and Literary Success
Cave's literary adventures extended beyond the boundaries of pulp fiction. He spent winters on the idyllic islands of Haiti and Jamaica, which inspired several acclaimed travelogues and novellas.
