Biography of Hugo Mann

Early Life and Career

Hugo Mann is a German billionaire and businessman. He served as an apprentice to his grandfather, a skilled carpenter, who imparted valuable knowledge and skills to him. In 1938, Mann established his own business, a small furniture shop, in Karlsruhe. The distinguishing feature of his enterprise was the delivery of products to customers' homes, in addition to their excellent craftsmanship.

Expansion and Success

In the 1960s, Mann's company expanded within Germany and began adopting American manufacturing methods for furniture production. In 1958, the consumer market Wertkauf was opened, initially covering an area of 3,500 square meters. Eight years later, another branch with a larger area of 6,000 square meters was established in Freiburg. By 1968, the company had built the largest universal shopping center in Europe.

Growth and Legacy

The chain of universal stores, employing six thousand people, achieved a significant increase in annual turnover, reaching 1.5 billion euros. In 1970, furniture stores under the name Mann Mobilia were opened in Karlsruhe, followed by branches in Wiesbaden, Mannheim, and other German cities. The continuous improvement of their production processes and the growing number of potential customers contributed to the sustained demand for their furniture products.

Succession and Sale

In 1989, Hugo Mann stepped down from his leadership position and handed over the management of the organization to his son, Johannes Mann, who became the chairman of the board. After some years, the business was eventually sold. In 1997, Wertkauf was acquired by Wal-Mart, a major American retail company. Later, in July 2005, the Austrian company Lutz purchased Mann Mobilia.
