Introduction
Hugues III, known as "the White" (Latin: Albus), was a Seigneur of Lusignan, a feudal lord during the Middle Ages.
Early Life and Lineage
Hugues III was born to Hugues II "the Good" and inherited his father's domains in either 950 or 967. He was a member of the comital court in Poitiers and played a role in mediating the donation of the Church of Mézières and its lands to the Abbey of Saint-Cyprien.
Land Grants and Privileges
During his time as Seigneur, Hugues III confirmed the rights of the Abbey of Saint-Cyprien to use forests and maintain a trade route between Lusignan and Poitiers. In return for these concessions, Duchess Emma of Blois, wife of William IV of Aquitaine, imposed a tax on the Abbey of Saint-Maxent, with the proceeds going to Hugues III.
Marriage and Lineage
In 967, Hugues III married Arsende. Their son, Hugues IV of Lusignan, became the heir to the House of Lusignan upon his father's death.
