Political Career
Gísladóttir embarked on her political journey immediately after completing her studies. In 1991, she was elected to the Althing (Icelandic Parliament) as a member of the Reykjavík constituency. Hiatus and Return to Politics
Following her tenure in the Althing, Gísladóttir took a break from politics until 2005. She returned to the political scene as the chairperson of the Social Democratic Alliance (SDA), a progressive political party.
