Giuseppe Niccolò Laurenti was an Austrian naturalist of Italian descent whose life and career remain largely uncharted.

Early Life and Education

According to Karl Adler's scholarly account, Laurenti was born in Vienna on December 4, 1735. He attended the school associated with the University of Vienna, graduating in 1754. Following a common practice of the time, Laurenti pursued practical experience in medicine and herpetology without further formal education.

Medical Career and Doctoral Thesis

In 1768, Laurenti earned his doctorate in medicine from the University of Vienna's Faculty of Medicine. He published his dissertation in two formats: as a dissertation (March 1768, reprinted in 1966) and as a book in the same year, likely at a later date.

Medical Faculty and Midwifery Practice

From 1769 to 1805, Laurenti served on the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Vienna. In 1772, he passed an examination qualifying him to practice midwifery.

Later Life and Demise

Laurenti remained at the University of Vienna until his death on February 17, 1805, in Vienna. Karl Adler's research indicates that no other works by Laurenti were published during his lifetime.
