Early Life and Career

Ivan Ivanov, a Bulgarian footballer, was born in Zlatiza, a small town in Bulgaria. He relocated to Blagoevgrad during his childhood and enrolled in the Pirin football academy at the tender age of 10. Ivanov began his professional career with Sofia's CSKA at age 17, making his league debut in 2005 and contributing to their championship triumph in the same season.

Loan Stint and Rise at CSKA

Despite limited playing time in subsequent seasons, Ivanov was regarded as a promising talent. In August 2007, he joined Lokomotiv Plovdiv on loan, where he featured in 24 matches. Upon returning to CSKA, he established himself as a regular starter. During the 2008 winter transfer window, he reportedly attracted interest from English club Derby County, but work permit issues hindered his move.

Cup Success and Scoring Debut

Ivanov played a pivotal role in CSKA's Super Cup victory over Litex Lovech in 2008. After a wave of player departures during the summer of 2008, he became an indispensable part of the team alongside central defender Kiril Kotev. On September 19, 2008, Ivanov scored his debut goal for CSKA in a 2-0 win against Minyor Pernik.

Regular Goalscoring Contributions

Ivanov's goalscoring prowess continued throughout the 2008-09 season. He netted the winning goal against his former club Lokomotiv Plovdiv on March 18, 2009. Additional goals followed against Spartak Varna and Minyor Pernik, contributing to CSKA's success.

Continued Importance and Disciplinary Issue

Ivanov remained a key defensive midfielder for CSKA. In August 2009, he started the new season with a goal against Beroe. In the UEFA Europa League against Dynamo Moscow, Ivanov scored the match-winning goal in the second leg at Arena-Khimki. However, a breach of club discipline resulted in him being suspended in November 2009. He was reinstated to the first team shortly after.

Transfer Speculation

In January 2010, Ivanov attracted interest from Romanian club Steaua Bucharest and Italian side Torino. However, no transfer materialised, and he remained with CSKA.
