Boyar and Voivode

Early Life and Career

Grigory Vasilyevich Neliubov was a boyar and military commander who served the Muscovite princes Vasily III and Ivan the Terrible. He was the son of Vasily Ivanovich Neliubov.

In 1511, Neliubov became a voivode (commander) in the guard regiment in Tula. Later, he participated in the campaign against Crimean Tatars at Ugra as a voivode in the left-hand regiment.

Service under Ivan the Terrible

Neliubov continued his military service under Ivan the Terrible. In 1534 and 1540, he defended Kolomna from Crimean Tatar incursions as the commander of the vanguard regiment. In 1535, he was appointed as a voivode in the right-hand regiment in Kolomna and Serpukhov.

From 1541 to 1545, Neliubov served as a voivode in the right-hand regiment against Crimean Tatars, initially in Vladimir and later in Kolomna and Kashira. In 1547, he became a boyar and voivode in Kaluga, while stationed in Smolensk.

Kazan Campaign and Later Years

In 1548, Neliubov fought in the Kazan campaign as a voivode in the left-hand regiment. He also served as a governor in Ryazan from 1548 to 1549. From 1549 to 1550, he commanded the main regiment in Kolomna.

Family

Neliubov's father was Vasily Ivanovich Neliubov, of the Pronsky family. He had three sons:
