Early Life and Family
Born on October 27, 1946, in Komárno, Czechoslovakia, to Jewish parents, Ivan Reitman was raised in a family that endured the horrors of the Holocaust. During World War II, his mother was imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp. In 1950, the Reitman family emigrated to Canada.
Filmmaking Career
Reitman's passion for filmmaking began early on, and in 1968, he directed his first short film, "Orientation." Three years later, he released his feature film debut, "Foxy Lady." In the 1980s and 1990s, Reitman gained widespread recognition for his comedic films, including the blockbuster "Ghostbusters" and its sequel.
Personal Life
In 1976, Reitman married Genevieve Robert, and they welcomed three children together: Jason (born 1977), Catherine (born 1981), and Caroline (born 1988). His son, Jason, also became a successful filmmaker.
Hollywood Recognition
Reitman's contributions to the film industry were widely acknowledged. In 1997, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7024 Hollywood Boulevard.
