Biography of Jay Ar Chelsea

Jay Ar Chelsea, an American short track speed skater, was born on July 17, 1990, in Monterey, California. His father, Robert, is of Polish descent, while his mother, Sue, is from the Philippines. Jay grew up in Federal Way, Washington, with his two older brothers, Chris and David.

Before entering the world of speed skating, Jay was a champion inline skater. However, his interest in short track speed skating began after watching Apolo Anton Ohno compete in the 2002 Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, Jay was too young to qualify for the 2006 Winter Olympics, as he missed the age requirement by only 17 days.

In 2009, at the Short Track Speed Skating World Championships, Jay won a gold medal in the 3000-meter race and shared a gold medal in the 5000-meter relay. He also earned bronze medals in the 1000-meter and 1500-meter races.

During the American Olympic trials in 2009, held in Marquette, Michigan, Jay finished in second place overall. However, he suffered an injury during a fall in the semifinals of the 500-meter race. Despite the setback, Jay set a personal record in the 1000-meter race with a time of 1:23.981, securing a spot in the top five finishers alongside Apolo Anton Ohno.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Jay won a bronze medal in the final race of the 1500-meter event. This came after a collision between silver medalist Lee Ho-Suk and Korean skater Si-Bak Sun on the last turn of the last lap. Jay was in fifth place before the crash, but the incident propelled him into third place. Apolo Anton Ohno came in second in that race.

In addition to his Olympic success, Jay has also achieved multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals at the World Championships and the American Junior Championships. He continues to compete and represent the United States in short track speed skating.
