Early Life and Education

Jack Dorsey was born on November 19, 1976, in St. Louis, Missouri. He developed an interest in routing and dispatch at the age of 13 and created open-source software that is still used by many taxi services. He attended Bishop DuBourg High School and later transferred to the New York University, where he first came up with the idea for Twitter.

The Creation of Twitter

After moving to California, Dorsey worked as a programmer for some time. In 2000, he opened his own company in Oakland, which allowed users to book couriers, taxis, and emergency services online. In July 2000, inspired by the growing popularity of blogs like LiveJournal and possibly AOL Instant Messenger, Dorsey came up with the idea for a real-time communication internet service based on short messages. He joined the company 'Odeo', which was interested in text messaging at that time. Dorsey and Biz Stone developed a prototype of Twitter in about two weeks. The promising idea attracted many users at 'Odeo', and Evan Williams, who had left Google after the sale of Pyra Labs and Blogger, offered to invest. Dorsey, Stone, and Noah Glass co-founded 'Obvious', which later became 'Twitter, Inc.'. Dorsey served as the CEO and attracted the attention of several venture capitalists who supported the company.

Return to Twitter and Square

On October 16, 2008, Evan Williams took on the role of CEO, and Dorsey became the chairman of the board. He returned to Twitter as executive chairman on March 28, 2011. In May 2010, Dorsey released a mobile device called 'Square', which allowed users to accept plastic cards using his platform. By June 2011, the company had over 100 employees, and its office is located in San Francisco. The estimated value of 'Square' is around $3.2 billion.
