Jack Moore: The Fitness Enthusiast Who Survived a Two-Ton Truck

Jack Moore, a 21-year-old from Norwich, England, credits his fitness with saving his life after a two-ton truck ran over his abdomen. Moore, who weighed 220 pounds at the age of 17, dedicated himself to working out to combat obesity.

The Incident

In June 2017, Moore and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Vikki, were napping in a park when a Toyota Hilux pickup truck loaded with rubbish bins approached them. The front wheel of the truck rolled over Moore's stomach, causing severe injuries. Moore recalls the excruciating pain and the surreal sensation of watching the wheel approach his body. He sustained a 20-centimeter scar, a punctured lung, two broken ribs, a lacerated liver and kidney, and lost a liter of blood due to internal bleeding.

Medical Intervention

Moore was rushed to the hospital within 400 meters of the accident scene. A team of doctors performed emergency surgery, inserting tubes and an epidural needle into his body. His recovery involved physiotherapy to regain mobility, but he continues to experience health issues, including difficulty using the toilet and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Legal Consequences

The driver of the truck was fined £195 for careless driving and lost his job with waste management company Norse. Moore's legal representatives, Slater & Gordon, argue that the sentence is inadequate and are seeking a review of the case.

Aftermath

Moore has struggled with the psychological effects of the accident. He experiences flashbacks of the truck rolling over his stomach and the lingering fear associated with the park where it occurred. His girlfriend, Vikki, also sustained injuries in the incident, including a broken vertebra, collarbone, and cracked sternum.

Samantha Williams' Statement

"Mr. Moore, who was previously a healthy and active young man with his whole life ahead of him, has been left struggling to undertake simple tasks without being in pain," said Samantha Williams, Slater & Gordon's personal injury specialist.

Representations by Norse

"We referred the matter to our insurers following the incident," said a spokesperson for Norse.

Health and Safety Executive's Findings

The Health and Safety Executive found that the driver's inattention was a contributory factor to the accident.
