Jackie Jenkins, also known as Butch, was an American actor who appeared in films during his childhood years. Born on August 29, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, Jackie's mother, Doris Dudley, was an actress from Texas who was excited about the opportunity for a contract with one of the most influential film studios in the world, despite not achieving much success in Hollywood herself.

Jackie's real name was Jack Dudley Jenkins, but he became forever known as Butch due to his messy hair. He was different from other child actors, embodying the image of a typical American boy, the younger brother that every child in the United States dreamed of having.

Jackie attended the studio school alongside other young stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Margaret O'Brien, Claude Jarman Jr., and Darryl Hickman. His debut on the big screen came in 1943 in the film "The Human Comedy," where he played Ulysses Macauley, the younger brother of the main character portrayed by Mickey Rooney. His appearance was well-received by both the audience and critics, resulting in numerous offers for roles.

In 1946, after starring in the film "Boy's Ranch" alongside James Craig, where his character's name, Butch, became permanently associated with him, Jackie gained the status of a movie star. Inspired by the true story of a ranch in Texas that served as a home and school for boys from underprivileged families, MGM produced the film on the heels of the success of "Boys Town," which was released in 1936. Jackie played Jim Tucker, the son of James Craig's character, in his next film, "Little Mr. Jim." He also appeared in other notable films such as "National Velvet" with Elizabeth Taylor and Angela Lansbury, "Our Vines Have Tender Grapes," "My Brother Talks to Horses," "Summer Holiday," and his final film, "Big City," in 1948.

At the age of 11, Butch developed a stutter, which persisted throughout his life and eventually led to his retirement from acting. Later, he expressed gratitude for the presence of film in his life but had no regrets about leaving it behind, as he never intended to be an actor for his entire life. His childhood earnings provided him with a substantial fortune, and he went on to have a successful career in business. He moved to Texas, where he lived for many years, and started a family.

Jackie Jenkins passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 14, 2001, at the age of 63, in Asheville, North Carolina.
