Initial Diagnosis and Treatment in Texas

In 2009, at the age of 49, Jane Elterman experienced neck pain and sought medical attention during her lunch break. Little did she know that she would never return to work. An MRI revealed extensive cancer in all five lobes of her lungs, lymph nodes, and jugular vein, causing a blood clot in her neck. Jane was immediately hospitalized and underwent a series of medical interventions, including drainage of fluid from her lungs and placement of a port for chemotherapy.

Seeking Alternative Treatments

Despite extensive conventional treatments, Jane's cancer continued to grow. She sought out alternative therapies at a different hospital, where she underwent CyberKnife surgery. However, new tumors developed soon after. Determined to find a more effective solution, Jane consulted with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA).

Finding Hope at CTCA

Dr. Jaggernaut, an oncologist at CTCA, candidly acknowledged the advanced stage of Jane's cancer but expressed his team's commitment to exploring all possible options. Jane underwent a combination of chemotherapy, tomotherapy, and CyberKnife surgery, supported by comprehensive care that included symptom management, dietary guidance, and emotional support.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Life

During her treatment at CTCA, Jane spent seven weeks as an inpatient, which coincided with the holiday season. Despite the challenges, she found solace in the unwavering support of her care team, who made her feel comfortable and respected.

Living with Cancer

Despite her diagnosis, Jane has defied the odds. She has witnessed her young nieces and nephews grow up, graduated from school and college, and welcomed the arrival of her stepdaughter's child. She remains grateful for her excellent health and has resumed her active lifestyle, completing a 5K run and embarking on a cruise to Tahiti.

Giving Back

Jane's journey has inspired her to become involved in CTCA's Care Net program, offering support to fellow cancer patients. She also volunteers at her church, providing assistance to those in need. Jane's resilience and unwavering spirit serve as a testament to the transformative power of hope and the importance of seeking compassionate and comprehensive cancer care.
