A Journey of Cancer Triumph

Early Diagnosis and Unsatisfactory Care

In 2010, at age 62, Janet visited her general practitioner for a routine checkup. As a former smoker, she was concerned about her health and requested blood work and a chest x-ray. Shortly after her appointment, Janet received the devastating news that she had small cell lung cancer, a particularly aggressive type of tumor.

Seeking Alternative Treatment

Determined to explore treatment options outside her local hospital, Janet reached out to Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), a national network of cancer hospitals and clinics. Impressed by their holistic approach and compassionate care, she decided to seek treatment there.

The Healing Power of CTCA

Expert Care and a Supportive Environment

Upon arriving at CTCA Phoenix, Janet met with an oncologist who she describes as "a rock" throughout her journey. The recommended treatment plan included four rounds of chemotherapy, followed by nine weeks of radiation therapy and two additional rounds of chemotherapy.

During the challenging early stages of chemotherapy, Janet stayed at CTCA for five days before returning home for 21-day intervals. An infusion port system was implanted to facilitate ongoing treatment. As she progressed to radiation therapy, Janet stayed at CTCA for extended periods, finding solace and support within the hospital's healing environment.

Emotional Resilience amidst Adversity

A Support Network and a Higher Power

Janet relied on the support of hospital staff, including chaplains, social workers, and fellow patients. Her faith in God also played a significant role in her resilience. Despite personal setbacks, including the loss of her father during treatment, Janet remained determined to overcome her illness.

A Symbol of Strength

After completing her treatment, Janet celebrated her triumph by purchasing a pair of diamond earrings to serve as a reminder of her survival. She credits CTCA with empowering her and instilling within her an unwavering belief that she could face any challenge that came her way.

Ongoing Care and a Positive Outlook

Regular Follow-ups and a Sense of Empowerment

Janet continues to receive regular check-ups at CTCA. She believes that her health and well-being are a testament to the power of specialized care, emotional support, and the unwavering spirit that fueled her journey.
