Birth and Early Life
Janusz Jerzy Gajos, a celebrated Polish actor of stage and screen, was born in the town of Dąbrowa Górnicza, near Katowice, amidst the throes of Nazi occupation.
Theatrical Debut
In 1964, at the tender age of 18, Gajos made his acting debut in the film "Girl in the Window." His breakout role, however, came in the popular television series "Four Tank-Men and a Dog," where he played Janek Kos, earning him widespread fame throughout the Eastern Bloc.
Moving to Łódź and Warsaw
Following his graduation from acting school, Gajos joined the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Łódź. During this period, he struggled with the burden of his sudden stardom, associated solely with his vibrant portrayal of Janek. In 1970, he relocated to Warsaw, where he worked in various theaters. Through his diverse stage performances, he gradually shed the typecasting and re-established his reputation as a multifaceted actor.
National Theatre
Since 2003, Gajos has been associated with the National Theatre in Warsaw.
Film Success
Simultaneously with his theatrical career, Gajos has continued to grace the silver screen. His exceptional performances have garnered him numerous accolades at both national and international film festivals.
