Jerrod Shoemaker
Jerrod Shoemaker (born July 17, 1982) is an American triathlete who competed in the 2008 Olympics.
Early Life and Career
Growing up in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Shoemaker initially pursued baseball, following his passion for the Boston Red Sox. However, as he grew older, he transitioned to running and excelled in various sports, including football, basketball, lacrosse, wrestling, swimming, and ice hockey.
College Athletics
At Dartmouth College, Shoemaker focused on swimming, running, and biking. He became a formidable runner, winning the Heptagonal Games Cross Country Championship in the 8-kilometer race with a time of 24.36 minutes. He also captured three Heps XC titles in his first three years and placed 12th in the NCAA Outdoor 5000-meter race in his senior year.
Transition to Triathlon
Inspired by the Olympic debut of triathlon in Sydney 2000, Shoemaker switched to the sport in 2004. He quickly established himself as one of the top young American triathletes, earning a berth on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team.
