Jason Reitman, an American and Canadian actor, director, producer, and screenwriter, was born in 1977 in Montreal, Canada. He is the son of Jewish immigrant and director Ivan Reitman and Canadian actress Geneviève Robert. Growing up, Reitman's family moved to Los Angeles, California, where his father's career took off after directing films like "Kindergarten Cop" and the famous "Ghostbusters."

Despite the family's success, Reitman describes himself as a "shy loser" during his teenage years. In the 1980s, he began appearing in small roles in movies and assisting his father on film sets.

In the early stages of his directing career, Reitman made a mistake that resulted in losing a significant amount of money. However, this setback earned him the respect of his colleagues as he decided not to accept offers for external projects until his own work achieved success.

In 1998, Reitman directed a short film titled "Operation," but it didn't bring him much recognition. His first major work came in 2005 with the film "Thank You for Smoking," which grossed over $31 million.
