Jason Robards Jr. was an American actor, widely regarded as one of the finest performers in the plays of Eugene O'Neill. He was born into a family of second-tier Hollywood actors. During World War II, Robards served with distinction in the Navy, including being stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack in 1941. After the war, he struggled to find his calling until 1959, when he achieved success in Broadway productions of O'Neill's plays.

Marriage and Career Achievements

From 1961 to 1969, Robards was married to the legendary actress Lauren Bacall. He received two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in "All the President's Men" (1976) and "Julia" (1977). However, he was more widely recognized by the public for his role in Sergio Leone's Western film "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1968). However, due to health issues, he had to leave Peru where the filming took place. The scenes filmed with him were reshot, and the title role was given to Klaus Kinski.
