A Boy's Extraordinary Act of Courage
Premature Birth and ComplicationsOn the morning of August 11, 2017, Ashley Moreau's water broke as she took a bath, unaware that her delivery was six weeks premature. As she looked down, she was horrified to realize that her baby was coming out feet first, a condition known as breech birth. Complicating matters further, she began bleeding heavily as her water broke, alarming her as her baby had yet to fully emerge.

A Son's Quick Thinking
Ashley's fiancé, Kelsi Richard, was at work, leaving her alone with her 10-year-old son, Jayden. In desperation, she called out to her son, asking him to run to a neighbor's house and fetch his grandmother. The grandmother called for an ambulance but was unable to provide assistance as she had recently undergone surgery and could barely walk. Jayden returned to his mother, declaring, "Tell me what to wish and I'll make it happen."

Delivering a Newborn
With his mother's guidance, Jayden knelt by her side and took hold of his baby brother's legs. As per his mother's instructions, he gently pulled Dax's legs down to free him from her abdomen. Upon his delivery, Jayden realized his brother was not breathing.
Saving a Life
Undeterred, the young savior rushed to the kitchen and retrieved a nasal aspirator used for his 11-month-old sister. He hurried back to the bathroom and helped his mother clear the newborn's nose and mouth. Just as an ambulance with medical equipment arrived, Dax began breathing.
To the Hospital
Ashley, Dax, and Jayden were rushed to the hospital, where the infant was found to be in good health with no developmental issues. Doctors confirmed that without Jayden's quick thinking, Dax would not have begun breathing independently, and Ashley may have lost consciousness during childbirth.
Gratitude and Pride
"I cry every time I think about it," said Ashley. "I don't think Jayden realizes what he did and how big it was." "I told him he'll always have a special bond with his brother. I'm so proud of Jayden. He saved our lives."
