His mother, Gulzhavgar Bayzhanbayeva, worked for the newspaper "Socialist Kazakhstan". Jean is the nephew of Anuarbek Nigmetzhanovich Bayzhanbayev, a radio and television announcer, honored artist of the Kazakh SSR, and honorary radio operator of the USSR. He completed his acting studies at the Alma-Ata State Theater and Art Institute in 1982.
