Biography of Jean Béraud
Jean Béraud was a renowned artist born into a French family living in St. Petersburg in 1848. After the death of his father in 1853, the family returned to Paris, where Béraud participated in the battles for the city in 1870. Subsequently, he became a student of Atelier Bonnat in 1871 and made his debut at the Salon de Paris in 1873.
Renowned Painter
Béraud is best known today as the author of paintings depicting the life of Parisian society from the beginning to the end of the nineteenth century in France. He drew his inspiration from the Impressionists, many of whom he knew personally. Béraud was one of the founders of the National Society of Arts. He received the Golden Medal from the Society of French Artists in 1889 and was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1887.
