Jean Kent, born Joan Mildred Summerfield, was a British film and television actress. She was one of the brightest stars of British television in the 1940s and 1950s. She was born to vaudeville actors Norman Field and Nina Norre in Brixton, London. Following in her parents' footsteps, Joan started her career at the age of 10 as a dancer in 1931. She later adopted the stage name Jean Carr and joined the chorus of the Windmill Theatre in London.

During World War II, Jean signed a contract with Gainsborough Pictures and started gaining recognition for her roles in films, particularly in the movie "Fanny by Gaslight" in 1945. In the 1940s and 1950s, Jean played various roles in different films before transitioning to television. In 1946, she married Austrian actor Josef Ramart, and they stayed married for 43 years until Ramart's death in 1989. They met on the set of the film "Caravan," and their wedding was attended by well-known British actor Stewart Granger. The couple also acted together in films like "Trottie True."

In 1974, Jean Kent was featured as the main guest in an episode of the TV show "This Is Your Life," hosted by Irish presenter Eamonn Andrews. Throughout her career, Jean Kent appeared in over 35 roles in both film and television. It is difficult to pinpoint her most successful role, as some remember her from "Caravan," others from "Fanny by Gaslight," and still others from films like "The Wicked Lady," "Madonna of the Seven Moons," and "The Browning Version." The latter film, based on a well-known play, is considered one of her most notable works, especially as it starred Michael Redgrave alongside Jean.

On November 30, 2013, Jean Kent passed away in a hospital in West Suffolk at the age of 92. She had suffered a fall a few days prior, which was the cause of her death.
