Jeremy Fall: A Culinary Innovator and Entrepreneurial Trailblazer

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Jeremy Fall, born and raised in Los Angeles, California, is of Tunisian, French, Caribbean, and Jewish heritage. His Tunisian and French-born parents immigrated to the United States before his birth. Fall's mother owned a café in Los Angeles, where she met Fall's stepfather, who was a chef at the café.

At age 16, Fall founded his first venture, Mad City Entertainment, an artist management and event production company in Los Angeles, based on his experience interning at local nightclub promotions. He also worked as a promotions manager at the Avalon Hollywood entertainment venue.

Culinary Journey

In 2014, Fall opened three bars at the age of 24. The first was Genesis, a pop-up bar and nightclub housed in an old Hollywood loft. His second pop-up, Golden Box, was inspired by the 1980s Manhattan nightclub scene and was set in the former Los Angeles Writers Room. King Eddy Saloon, a former dive bar in Los Angeles, was reopened by Fall in December 2014.

In January 2016, Fall launched his first restaurant, Nighthawk: Breakfast Bar, in Venice, California. Its concept was inspired by "a melting pot of global cultures and flavors mixed with my nostalgia for American diners." Nighthawk gained recognition for its lineup of original cocktails, including the boozy Cereal Milk. Eater.com listed Nighthawk among the "Hottest Bars Coast to Coast" in North America.

Later in 2016, Fall teamed up with Eggslut chef Alvin Cailan to open the Easy's burger stand in Chinatown, Louisiana. In 2020, Fall was included in Forbes' "30 Under 30" list, specifically in the Food & Drink category.

J. Fall Group

In 2016, Fall met Henry Costa at Costa's sausage-centric West Hollywood restaurant, Link. Sharing their visions and aspirations for the restaurant and hospitality industry, Fall partnered with Costa, a Wall Street investment banker turned chef and restaurateur, to co-found J. Fall Group. Fall led J. Fall Group's creative direction, branding, and marketing, while Costa handled finance and operations.

Fall's vision for J. Fall Group was to develop "American-inspired restaurants that defy culinary trends and are nostalgic to our childhoods...to create an emotional connection with the guest...and to elevate hospitality without the price premium."

In November 2016, the duo opened J. Fall Group's first concept, Tinfoil Liquor & Grocery, in Los Angeles' Highland Park. Inspired by New York City, the concept featured a street-facing liquor store with a secret password required to enter the speakeasy in the back.

Expanding the Nighthawk brand, J. Fall Group launched Nighthawk: AM in November 2017, a fast-casual daytime concept complementing the original late-night concept, in Chicago. Fall later opened a second Nighthawk: AM location in Beverly Center in Los Angeles.

In July 2018, Easy's Burger's relocated, rebranded as Easy's, described as "Tupac and Fonzie's twisted love child," and reopened as a full-service bar and restaurant with a '90s diner vibe in the Beverly Center between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.

In August 2018, Fall and J. Fall Group partnered with United Talent Agency to open Paperboy Pizza, an immersive rock-and-roll pizza parlor located in the Food Hall at Westfield Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California.

By 2019, Fall had opened a total of 14 restaurants across the United States. That year, Los Angeles-based K2 Restaurants acquired J. Fall Group and its existing restaurant brands - Nighthawk Breakfast Bar, Nighthawk: AM, Tinfoil: Liquor & Grocery, Paperboy Pizza, and Easy's - as well as future and yet-to-open restaurant brands, Italian-themed Chapter and Jukebox, to be located within Chapter in Waco, Texas. Fall remained on board as the brands' creative director for a year after the acquisition.

In 2019, following the acquisition of J. Fall Group by K2, Fall and Costa opened McFly's Bird Shoppe, a 1980s-themed diner, and Unplugged, a 1990s-style Americana bar and restaurant, referencing the MTV show, next door to each other on Five Points Lane in Birmingham, Alabama.

Other Restaurants and Food Ventures

In 2018, Fall's Fried Chicken Sandwich was featured on the menu of Blue Ribbon Sushi restaurants in Los Angeles, New York City, and Las Vegas.

In August 2019, Fall launched his newest restaurant, Mixtape, which he envisioned as "a musical mixtape in restaurant form," in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles. Reflecting Fall's heritage, Mixtape's menu incorporates elements of Tunisian, Caribbean, Jewish, and French cuisines. The restaurant showcases various artwork by artists such as Quincy Jones, Jaden Smith, Vic Mensa, Brandon Boyd of Incubus, Tokimonsta, and Serj Tankian, and features special weekend brunch playlists curated by Robin Thicke. Fall collaborated with rapper F.O.R.A. on the design of the uniforms for Mixtape's staff.

In 2021, Fall's "J. Fall Ave. Sandwich" became a favorite on the menu of the renowned Mel's Drive-In restaurant chain. Fall and Mel's Diner also partnered to release a t-shirt featuring Fall and Mel's.

Fall has worked with the James Beard Foundation, cooking dinners for the Foundation's suppers. During a dinner at one of Fall's restaurants, Prince asked to prove to Fall that he could scramble eggs better than Fall, which led to Prince cooking eggs in Fall's restaurant kitchen for his guests.

Television and Media

Fall has made appearances on several network food and culinary television shows since 2016. In 2016, he and his restaurant Tinfoil were featured in an episode of the Bravo digital series Going Off the Menu. In 2017, Fall appeared on two Food Network shows hosted by Guy Fieri: the "Bite Size" episode of Guy's Big Project and later the "Breakfast, Brisket, and Belly" episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, which featured Fall at his Nighthawk: Breakfast Bar kitchen. In 2018, Fall appeared on an episode of Hallmark Channel's Home & Family, where he cooked his "Original Gangster Breakfast Sandwich." Later in 2018, Fall made two guest appearances on Food Network Star.

Fall has also cooked on camera for celebrities such as Shay Mitchell ("Pretty Little Liars," "You," and "Dollface") and TikTok star
