Jimmy Jam - Biography
James Samuel 'Jimmy Jam' Harris III, born on June 6, 1959, is an American singer, producer, and songwriter known for his work in R&B and pop music. He gained fame as part of a duo with Terry Steven Lewis, and their team became widely recognized in the 1980s, collaborating with notable artists such as Janet Jackson.

Early Life and Career
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis first met in high school and soon formed a group called 'Flyte Tyme,' which later became known as 'Time.' Managed by Morris Day, a protégé of Prince, the group released their debut album, produced by Prince himself and named after the group, 'LP.' Following the album's release, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis established 'Flyte Time Productions,' their own production company.
In March 1983, after a series of concerts supporting Prince, the duo took advantage of a brief moment of free time and traveled to Atlanta, where they recorded tracks for 'SOS Band's' album 'On the Rise.' Unfortunately, a severe storm stranded Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in Georgia, leading to their expulsion from 'Time' by Prince. However, their track 'Just Be Good to Me' quickly became a hit, catching the attention of major managers.
Success with R&B Legends
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis soon released R&B hits for Gladys Knight, Patty Austin, Thelma Houston, and 'Klymaxx.' Their melodic style, juicy yet smooth, filled with urban flair, quickly gained popularity. In 1985, they started collaborating with Janet Jackson, who was attempting to step out of the shadow of her more famous family members, particularly pop icon Michael Jackson.
Their alliance resulted in the highly successful album 'Control' in 1986, which quickly topped the charts and propelled Janet Jackson to superstardom. The album's success earned Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis a Grammy Award for 'Producers of the Year.' After working on several other projects, the duo reunited with Janet Jackson in 1989 for the release of 'Rhythm Nation 1814.' This album surpassed the sales of 'Control' and produced several chart-topping tracks, solidifying the fame of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Legacy
The majority of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis's fame is based on their work on these two albums with Janet Jackson. They are regarded as one of the most successful teams of the 1980s and have established themselves as excellent producers and songwriters. Their careers have been filled with a mix of club, popular, and R&B hits, making them influential figures in the music industry.
