Severe allergic reaction
Jo Thomson, a 39-year-old mother of three from Margate, UK, experienced a terrifying allergic reaction after using a hair dye at home. Despite conducting a patch test before applying the 'Schwarzkopf Live Color XXL' dye in the shade 'cosmic blue', Jo could not have anticipated the severity of the reaction.

A terrifying ordeal
Shortly after applying the dye, Jo felt an intense burning sensation on her scalp. Her head became red and moist, and even the slightest touch caused excruciating pain. Jo took an antihistamine and managed to fall asleep, only to wake up the next morning with a face that had swollen to twice its size and covered in sores.

A misdiagnosis and deteriorating condition
Initially, Jo's doctor diagnosed her with a moderate allergic reaction and sent her home with antibiotics. However, her condition quickly worsened, and she could no longer open her eyes. With her face peeling and her eyes covered in a gel-like substance, Jo's sister rushed her to Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.
Desperate measures
Jo's husband, Paul, usually takes care of her, but this time her condition was so severe that she appeared like a monstrous creature to her own children, who were frightened and ran away. Jo spent a month hiding at home before finally visiting an ophthalmologist, who was shocked by the state of her eyes. Jo was at risk of permanently losing her sight, and although she wished for death rather than recovery, she was urgently admitted to the hospital for a surgery that could potentially save her vision.
A long road to recovery
In addition to the surgery, Jo had to undergo brain scans, a lumbar puncture, and detoxification procedures to rid her body of toxins. After four days, she was finally discharged. While her skin condition improved significantly, Jo still suffered from impaired vision, color blindness, and anxiety, which led to agoraphobia, a fear of leaving the house. She realized that there was nothing better than her natural hair color and vowed to never risk her health again.
Safety concerns and reaching out
The incident deeply alarmed the cosmetic company 'Schwarzkopf', who has been trying to contact Jo Thomson. Safety and compatibility of their products have always been their top priorities, and they are determined to address this issue responsibly.
