Birth and Early Life
Joseph King was born on May 25, 1980, in Arvada, Colorado. Raised in a Catholic family, he attended Faith Christian Academy and briefly considered becoming a minister. However, his love for music led him to pursue a different path.
Music Career
The FrayIn 1999, King reconnected with high school classmate Isaac Slade, who shared his passion for music. They began collaborating and eventually formed The Fray in 2002 alongside Ben Wysocki and Dave Welsh. The band's name was chosen randomly from a list of words written on slips of paper.
The Fray released their debut EP, "Movement," in 2002, featuring King's vocals on "It's for You" and "Where You Want To." Their breakthrough came with the album "Reason" (2003), which garnered local recognition. Epic Records signed The Fray in 2004.
Their major-label debut, "How to Save a Life" (2005), reached #15 on the Billboard 200 and featured the chart-topping title track. King wrote all of the songs for the album alongside Slade. He sang lead vocals on "Heaven Forbid," a song dedicated to his sister.
In 2009, The Fray released their self-titled album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. "Never Say Never," written by King, became a massive hit. The song earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance and was featured in the soundtrack for "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
Solo Career
In 2013, King released his debut solo album, "Breaking," under the pseudonym King. The album showcased his unique songwriting style, distinct from The Fray's sound. He released a second solo album, "Union Moon," in 2015.
Production
Beyond his work as a musician, King has also been active as a producer. He collaborated with Kris Allen, winner of American Idol Season 8, on a cover of Kanye West's "Heartless" and cowrote and performed "Undertow" with Timbaland.
Personal Life
King has been married twice. His first marriage to Julia produced two daughters, Ava and Elise. In 2014, he married actress Candice King (née Accola), known for her role in "The Vampire Diaries." They have one daughter, Florence May.
Current Status
Currently, King seems focused on spending time with his family. While he has not announced any upcoming music projects, fans eagerly await his return to both his solo and The Fray endeavors.
