Early Life and Family

Ambros Bacius Bach, born in Erfurt, Thuringia, was the son of Christoph Bach (1613-1661). Together with his twin brother, Johann Christoph Bach, Ambros showed an early aptitude for music.

Musical Career

After working as a violinist in Erfurt, Ambros secured a position as a city musician in Eisenach, beginning in 1671. Later, he became the city's official bagpiper.

Personal Life

On April 1, 1668, Ambros married Maria Elisabeth Lemmerhirt. Their union produced eight children, four of whom became musicians. The most renowned of these musical descendants was Johann Sebastian Bach.

Legacy

Ambros Bacius Bach passed away in Eisenach on his 50th birthday, February 15, 1695. Although he achieved modest success as a musician, his true legacy lies in the remarkable musical achievements of his son, Johann Sebastian Bach.
