Johann Kaspar Kerll: German Composer
Johann Kaspar Kerll, a German composer, emerged from a musical family. Born to organist Kaspar Kerll, his early musical education likely took place under his father's tutelage. Kerll's journey expanded to Vienna and, from approximately 1645 to 1649, to Rome, where he studied with maestros Giacomo Carissimi and possibly Girolamo Frescobaldi.
Acclaimed Organist and Composer
Kerll's exceptional talent as an organist made him renowned. His sacred compositions showcased a refined style and distinctive musicality. His repertoire included motets, organ preludes, masses, toccatas, and more.
Musical Director in Munich
From 1656 to 1674, Kerll is believed to have directed the court chapel and opera in Munich. Notably, in 1657, he inaugurated the first opera house in the Bavarian capital with his opera "Oronta."
