Biography of John Robert Isner
John Robert Isner is an American professional tennis player. He has been a professional since 2007 and is known for being one of the tallest players in the history of tennis, standing at 206 cm. Isner gained widespread recognition for his first-round match at the 2010 Wimbledon tournament against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut. The match lasted a record-breaking 11 hours and 5 minutes, ending with Isner's victory with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 67-7, 7-6, 70-68. This match set multiple records in the history of tennis, including the most aces in a single match (112) and the most games won by a player in one match (92).
Early Life and Career Beginnings
John Isner was born to parents Robert and Karen. He has two older brothers, Nathan and Jordan. Isner started playing tennis at the age of 9. In the early 2000s, he had a brief junior career, reaching the finals of two not-so-prestigious singles tournaments. In 2003, he made his debut in professional tennis at the Elkin Futures tournament in the United States. That same year, he also participated in his first Grand Slam tournament, receiving a wild card entry into the doubles tournament at the US Open.
College Tennis and Professional Breakthrough
From 2004 to 2007, Isner played college tennis for the University of Georgia in the United States. In 2005, he won his first adult title, a doubles tournament in Missouri. In 2007, Isner made the transition to the professional circuit, winning three Challenger titles (one in singles and two in doubles). He reached the final of an ATP tournament in Washington, where he lost to fellow American Andy Roddick. Isner also made it to the third round of the US Open that year.

In 2008, Isner won his first ATP title, a doubles tournament on grass in Newport. The following year, he achieved his first singles title by defeating Arnaud Clement in the final of the Auckland tournament. Isner made his debut for the United States Davis Cup team in 2010, contributing to victories in both singles and doubles matches against Serbia. That year, he also reached the fourth round of the Indian Wells tournament and won the doubles title at the Rome Masters 1000 event with Querrey.
