Birth and Early Career
Jorien ter Mors, nicknamed "Joris," was born on December 21, 1989, in Enschede, Netherlands. Her father introduced her to speed skating at the age of 11. Initially training in short track speed skating, ter Mors discovered her aptitude for long track skating as well.
Olympic Success
At the 2010 Winter Olympics, ter Mors represented the Netherlands, placing third in the 500 m and being disqualified in the 1000 m. She also competed in the 3000 m relay, helping her team finish fourth overall.
Ter Mors' breakthrough came at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. She became the Olympic champion in the 1500 m, setting a new Olympic record, and also won gold in the team pursuit.
Career Highlights
In addition to her Olympic medals, ter Mors has achieved numerous successes:
Two silver medals in the World Championships (2011 in relay, 2013 in 1000 m)
Three gold medals in the European Championships (in relay)
