Jos Verstappen: From Formula 1 to Le Mans Champion

Early Career

Jos Verstappen, a Dutch racing driver, made his mark in Formula 1. He debuted with Benetton in 1994 and went on to race for Simtek, Footwork, Tyrrell, Stewart, Arrows, and Minardi.

Return to Honda and A1 Grand Prix

In 1999, Verstappen became a test driver for Honda's Formula 1 comeback project. The project was canceled after the death of Harvey Postlethwaite, but Honda eventually returned to the championship without Verstappen. He then competed as the Netherlands' first driver in the 2005-2006 A1 Grand Prix season, winning the main race in Durban.

Le Mans Success

Verstappen found success in the Le Mans Series, winning the LMP2 championship in 2008 with Van Merksteijn Motorsport. He continues to compete in Le Mans, participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009 with Aston Martin's LMP1 team.

Infamous Pit Stop Fire

One of Verstappen's most memorable moments occurred during a pit stop in the 1994 German Grand Prix. The fuel valve was opened prematurely, causing a massive fireball. Verstappen sustained minor burns to his face but returned to the next Grand Prix and finished third.

Legacy

Verstappen's career has spanned multiple racing series, including Formula 1, A1 Grand Prix, and Le Mans. He is known for his aggressive driving style and has made a lasting impact on the world of motorsports.
