Early Life and Education
Joe Kovacs was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, but raised in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. His father, Joseph Kovacs, was of Hungarian descent and passed away when Joe was just seven years old. Joe's mother, JoAnna, raised him. He discovered his passion for shot put while attending Nazareth Area High School. After graduating high school, Kovacs attended Penn State University, where he majored in economics and petroleum and natural gas engineering.
Olympic Career
Kovacs missed out on the 2012 London Olympics after placing fourth at the US Olympic Trials. However, he made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he won a silver medal in the shot put. Kovacs captured gold medals at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships. He also earned a silver medal at the 2017 World Championships.
Achievements
In addition to his Olympic success, Kovacs has also achieved remarkable results in the Diamond League. Notable highlights include:
