Josephine Angelini: From Unlikely Name to Author of Enchanting Tales
Childhood in a Sibling HavenHailing from the modest town of Ashland, Massachusetts, Josephine Angelini, affectionately known as Josie, was the youngest of eight children. Her father, a farmer, had hoped for a boy, but fate had other plans. Josephine's parents had already chosen the name Joseph for their anticipated son, and when Josephine entered the world as a girl, they decided to keep it.
"I love my name, or at least I've come to terms with it. They could have named me Ralph, and Ralph just wouldn't work," Josie quipped. Her childhood became a vibrant tapestry that fueled her literary imagination. Surrounded by six older sisters who teased her relentlessly, Josie retreated into the realm of books, devouring every story she could get her hands on.
The Power Within
Josie's tales are intentionally crafted to inspire young women to embrace their uniqueness and discover their own "power." "I grew up surrounded by strong women, and my sisters were formidable. They were tall, big-haired, always smiling and laughing loudly, and unfortunately for me, very competitive. As the youngest, I sometimes had to stand my ground. Briefly," Josie recalled with a chuckle.
The power that the protagonist of her debut trilogy, "Awakening," uncovers is more tangible: Helen Hamilton discovers her lineage as a descendant of Greek gods and mortals, inheriting the ability to traverse the realm of the dead.
From New York to Los Angeles
Upon reaching adulthood, Josie relocated to New York City to pursue her studies at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She graduated with a BFA and subsequently moved to Los Angeles, where she currently resides with her husband.
While she cherishes the sunshine of Hollywood, Josie also deeply misses the hustle and bustle of New York City, her favorite place in the world. Her ultimate dream is to relocate to Fiji, a tropical paradise where she imagines a simple life: "Me, my husband, and the coral. That's pretty much all I need."
