Early Life and Artistic RootsBorn in Gyumri (formerly Leninakan), Armenia, on November 7, 1951, Julietta Stepanyan was the youngest of 14 children, only nine of whom survived. Her parents and one of her sisters pursued acting in a local amateur troupe, instilling in her a passion for the stage. From a young age, Julietta possessed a free-spirited and rebellious nature, which she has maintained throughout her life.
Artistic Debut and Stellar Career
While still in the sixth grade, Stepanyan made her debut in an amateur production of "Stepmother," which she also directed. Her talents were evident, and she went on to pursue acting at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Fine Arts. Graduating in 1970, she embarked on a remarkable career that has spanned theaters in Armenia, Poland, and beyond.
Theatrical Triumphs
Stepanyan joined the Armenian Drama Theatre named after Maxim Gorky in Stepanakert in 1970. She spent 17 years there, establishing herself as a leading actress known for her acclaimed performances in "Lady Macbeth," "Lady Milford," and "Richard III." In 1992, she joined the Ovanes Abelyan State Drama Theatre in Vanadzor, before moving to Poland in 1994 to perform with the Jan Kochanowski Theatre in Opole.
Stepanyan returned to Armenia in 2004, where she joined the Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre. She has since collaborated with the Hakob Paronyan Musical Comedy Theatre. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including the "Golden Mask" and the "Artavazd" awards.
Film and Television
Stepanyan's involvement in film began in the 1990s with the movie "The Cursed." Upon her return to Armenia in 2004, she resumed her film career, appearing in numerous productions such as "Yerevan Jan," "Autumn Apricot," and "Star of Love." In recent years, she has starred in "For Honor," "Olympia," and the short film "The Heiress."
Personal Life
Stepanyan's love story with actor Samvel Baghinyan is a tale of theatrical romance. They fell in love while performing in "Trees Die Standing" and married despite familial opposition. The couple welcomed a daughter, Arusik, who, along with her half-sisters Shushanik and Satenik, was named after their grandmothers.
Recent Projects and Enduring Legacy
In 2022, Stepanyan starred as Grandma Rosa in the comedy series "Manyunya," based on the award-winning novel by Narine Abgaryan. The Armenian actress expressed her joy at the opportunity to portray this iconic character.
