Early Life and Career in Paraguay

Julio Cáceres, a Paraguayan defender, was born in Asunción in 1979. His professional career commenced in 1999 with Olimpia Asunción, where he played a key role in securing the Paraguayan Championship titles in 1999 and 2000.

Continental Success with Olimpia

Cáceres etched his name in Olimpia's history by aiding the club in their third Copa Libertadores triumph in 2002, the club's centennial year. Subsequently, he helped them claim the Recopa Sudamericana title in 2003, further solidifying his legacy with the Paraguayan giants.

European Odyssey

In 2003, Cáceres embarked on a European adventure with FC Nantes in France. During his tenure there, he was loaned out to prominent clubs such as Atlético Mineiro (Brazil), River Plate (Argentina), and Gimnàstic Tarragona (Spain).

Triumph in Argentina

Cáceres joined Boca Juniors in 2008, where he experienced significant success. He played an integral role in their Recopa victory and the 2008 Apertura Argentine Primera División championship. His performances earned him recognition as he was named to the South American Team of the Year and ranked seventh among the best players in the continent.

Return to Paraguay and Club Success

Despite losing his starting spot at Boca Juniors, Cáceres declared his intention to leave. In 2010, he reunited with Atlético Mineiro. In 2011, he returned to his roots at Olimpia after six years abroad. Remarkably, Cáceres became the first player to win the Paraguayan Championship with Olimpia in both the 20th and 21st centuries, breaking an 11-year title drought for the club.
