Early Life and Education
Justin Hartley was born in Knoxville, Illinois, and raised in Orland Park. In high school, he excelled in basketball, baseball, and football but was forced to give up his athletic aspirations due to an injury. After graduating, he attended Southern Illinois University, majoring in both theater and history.
Acting Career
On December 26, 2000, Hartley moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. After working in radio commercials and as a telephone operator, he landed his first significant role as Nicolas "Fox" Crane in the NBC soap opera "Passions" (2002-2006).
Superhero Roles
In 2006, Hartley portrayed the iconic superhero Aquaman in the unaired pilot "Aquamen." He also played the titular role in the unscreened medical drama "Austin Golden Hour." In 2007, he joined The CW's "Smallville" as millionaire playboy and superhero Green Arrow, Oliver Queen. Hartley played a recurring role for seven episodes in Season 7 and became a regular cast member in Season 8.
